Kings of Convenience

Bio

Kings of Convenience are an indie-pop duo born in Bergen, Norway when Erlend Øye and Eirik Glambek Bøe, both born in 1975, met in high school. They started their ascent towards success in 1999 performing in many European summer festivals.

In 1999 they signed a record deal with the American label Kinderscore with which they released their debut album Kings of Convenience (1999), which was, however, only released in the United States. Their worldwide debut took place in 2001 thanks to Quiet is the New Loud. The record recaptured many tracks from the debut album but added a few originals. The album was a great success, so much that it started a new underground music scene, the new acoustic movement, characterized by hypnotic and soft atmospheres.

Three years later, the Scandinavian duo got back into the booth to record the exceptional Riot on an Empty Street which was released in 2004. After a brief pause, the two old-time friends returned with a series of concerts between 2007 and 2008 and then created their new album, Declaration of Dependence, in 2009 that confirmed them one of the most unique bands in their genre.

In 2015 they embarked on an international tour to celebrate Quiet is the New Loud. During the tour – for which the band presented every song of their debut album – they arrived in Italy during the summer of 2016 for four incredible dates at the Sexto Unplugged, in Gardone Riviera, in Rimini, and in Cosenza.

Even if they don’t leave in the same country anymore (Erlend Øye move permanently to Sicily), the duo keeps performing together for their public around the globe.
