First Aid Kit
Bio
First Aid Kit is a Swedish duo composed by sisters Johanna (1990) and Klara (1993) Soderberg, who reached international success thanks to their folk production which takes inspiration from the Sixties and the Seventies and is then mixed with great attention to the melody.
From a very young age, both of the sisters were close to music and started publishing their first songs on MySpace. Here they were noticed by Karin Elisabeth Dreijer, co-founder of electronic Swedish duo The Knife, who granted them a contract with label la Rabid Records. First Aid Kit published, therefore, their first EP Drunken Trees (2008), but especially thanks to the cover of “Tiger Mountain Peasant Song” by Fleet Foxes published on YouTube, Johanna e Klara reached international success and signed a contract with Wichita Records.
In 2010 they published their first album The Big Black & The Blue, followed by a world tour with more than 100 concerts and the publication of The Lion’s Roar (2012). The album was appreciated by the critics, reached the first position in all Swedish Charts and 35th in the English National Chart. It received several awards, like the Nordic Music Prize for Best Nordic Album of 2012, and four Swedish Grammis as Artist of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, Best Pop Album, and Album of the Year. Their single “Emmylou” was chosen by Rolling Stone as one of the top ten singles of the year and gave Johanna and Klara the possibility to perform during David Letterman’s The Late Show.
First Aid Kit’s third album was published in 2014: this was Stay Gold, which granted them a nomination at Brit Awards in 2015 for the category Best International Group, the possibility to start a new international tour, and several performances in tv programs as The Ellen DeGeneres Show and The Graham Norton Show.
Four years later in 2018, they published Ruins, an intimate and deep album in which folk sonorities are arranged with more awareness. That same year they participated in the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, they were nominated for International Album of the Year at UK Americana Awards in 2019, for Song of the Year and Alternative Pop of The Year at Swedish Grammis, and finally, they received a nomination for International Group at Brit Awards.First Aid Kit performed in Italy as part of Tri.p Music Festival 2018 at Triennale di Milano.
