Dimitri Grechi Espinoza

The Spiritual Way is the third chapter of Dimitri Grechi Espinoza’s project Oreb for Ponderosa Music & Art.

Oreb is another name for Mount Sinai, the stage of the encounter between Moses and God. The name was chosen for this project, which started in 2014, to underline the desire of the artist to bring music back to his primigenial function of vehicle for the dialogue with the sacred. 

With this third album, Dimitri confronts the theme of spiritual virtue, believing it to be important in times like these, which are apparently so little spiritual. Through his music and summarizing its key concepts, he tried to give echo and resonance to a text from the Chinese tradition that underlines a journey of interior ascesis.

The Spiritual Way’s deep and dilated notes resonate with suggestions that refer to Djivan Gasparyan’s Armenian duduk, John Coltrane’s spiritual freedom, the Sahara’s nomadic traditions, and John Surman’s repetitiveness.
