Richard Galliano

New Jazz Musette

In order to celebrate more than three decades of musical adventures always in service of Its Majesty The Melody, Richard Galliano goes back to his first love and “to the places where he loved life most”.

The double album New Jazz Musette, released in 2016, presents new recordings of eighteen of his career’s milestones where he melds his style and the music that inspired him most, from Astor Piazzolla’s tango to Clifford Brown, Bill Evans, and John Coltrane’ jazz to Gus Viseur’s manouche, with the deeply popular roots of the bal musette.

The protagonist is obviously the accordion, the instrument symbol of that music born in the guinguettes described by Maupassant and painted by Renoir. Music that encompassed the Argentinian tango’s nacre tears, Django Reinhardt’s gypsy lace, and Bud Powell’s harmonies. With New Jazz Musette, an entire idealistic image comes to life before our eyes: Paris as honest suburbs, as the hot club de France, as the city of the itinerant be-pop; the Paris of Miles Davis, Juliette Greco, Boris Vian and the city of lovers. Richard Galliano makes us understand the majestic presence of Paris through his music, with a spark, a fire, an enthusiasm that makes us love it once more and forever.
