Rokia Traoré
Né So
Singer, composer, and multi-instrumentalist, Rokia Traoré published her sixth album, Né So, in 2016, and as for her previous one, Beautiful Africa, she relied on the contribution of John Parish (PJ Harvey, Tracy Chapman, Cleo T.) for its production.
Né So in Bambara, Mali’s first language, means “home” and this is the key theme of this beautiful album. The concept of “home” has always been “fluid” for Rokia because of her growing up between Bamako, Bruxelles, Marseille, and Paris. Therefore, in Né So the word “home” encloses personal and political themes, from seeking shelter to nostalgia, from love to freedom.
