Lous and the Yakuza

Bio

Lous and the Yakuza is the stage name of Marie-Pierra Kakoma. She was born in Lubumbashi, Republic of Congo, in 1996 but was raised both in her native state and Brussels. She established herself on the music scene thanks to her cosmopolitan personality which gave strength to her music enabling it to splendidly tell her story of a young black woman in Europe.

the stage name Lous and the Yakuza came from the anagram of “soul”, and Yakuza, the Japanese crime organization that Kakoma used to describe her group of collaborators. it was with this moniker that she began to perform in Brussels’ clubs where she was noticed by Sony Music and offered her a record deal.

In 2018 she contributed to the album of the electronic group BSSMT, Le Ridicule Ne Tue Pas, but it was her debut single “Dilemme” that launched her. Kakoma released her second single “Tout est gore” and then “Solo”, the release of which was accompanied by the documentary Solo (Genesis) that told not only the song’s story but also the one on Lous herself.

The three singles preceded the release of the artist’s debut album, Gore, which was published during the fall of 2020. The album’s title (which referred to the particular genre of horror films) described her life marked by sorrow and war that in time turned into artistic success.

The same year, Kakoma released a remix of “Dilemme” with rapper The Supreme and singer Mara Sattei which reached the first position of the Italian single charts and earned a platinum certification. In 2021 she released “Je ne sais pas” with Italian rapper Sfera Ebbasta and, shortly after, she participated in the 71st edition of the Sanremo Festival performing a duet with Gaia on the notes of Luigi Tenco’s “Mi sono innamorato di te”.
