Bio

Kandace Springs was born in Nashville, Tennessee, in 1989. Raised with Nina Simone as an idol, Kandace approached music thanks to her father Scat Springs, who during his life was part of the group of musicians of a range of musicians including Aretha Franklin, Donna Summer, and Michael McDonald.

Kandace moved to New York and began working closely with producers Carl Sturken and Evan Rogers, the creative minds behind some of Rihanna and Christina Aguilera’s albums.

The American singer signed a contract with the legendary Blue Note Records and in 2014 published her debut EP, Kandace Springs, which let her perform live in tv shows like The Late Show with David Letterman, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Again in 2014, she was noticed by Prince thanks to a cover of Sam Smith’s “Stay With Me” and was personally invited by the iconic artist to perform with him at Paisley Park.

For Soul Eyes (2016) she collaborated once again with Sturken and Rogers, but also with Larry Klein, the manager of the Universal Music Group imprint, Strange Cargo, and collaborator of great artists like Bob Dylan, Peter Gabriel, and Lindsey Buckingham. The album reflected Springs’ artistic influences without being derivative. The greatest strength of Soul Eyes was the singer’s ability to establish herself amongst the icons of soul music with her first LP.

Two years later, her new project, Indigo, was published which counted the collaboration with trumpeter Roy Hargrove for the track “Unsophisticated”. The album was described by the JazzTimes as «an exceptional show of less-is-more for the majestic voice of Kandace Springs».

Thanks to the lucky encounter with the renowned jazz singer Norah Jones, Kandace mustered the courage to measure herself against a cover album of history’s most iconic singers: Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, Billie Holliday, Lauryn Hill. The Women Who Raised Me was published in 2020 preceded by the single “Pearls”, a new interpretation of Sade’s song.
