Efterklang

Bio

Efterklang, formed in Copenhagen in 2000, is a danish indie-rock and folk group. Their name derives from the Danish word “efterklang”, which means reflection, remembrance. Their original formation, composed by Casper Clausen, Mads Brauer, Thomas Husmer, and Rasmus Stolberg, is constantly changing and accompanied by musicians Rune Mølgaard, Niklas Antonson (trombone), Peter Broderick (violin), Frederik Teige (guitar), and Heather Woods Broderick (piano, flute, and vocals).

From the beginning, Efterklang joined the DIY Movement, in defence of the production of music by independent labels, and therefore founded their own record label, Rumraket, and produced their first album Springer (2003). In 2004, however, the group got the attention of numerous other independent record labels and published their second album Tripper for The Leaf Label. The song “Under Giant Trees” reached the first positions in danish charts.

In 2007, after signing with the label 4AD, Efterklang published Parades and started a two-year-long tour. After their performance with the Danish National Chamber Orchestra in Copenhagen, the group published the CD and DVD of the album Parades in collaboration with their old record label The Leaf Label.

In 2010 the Efterklang released Magic Chairs, in which they blended their indie sound to some more traditional rock sonorities. Subsequently, the band went on a trip to the arctic island of Spitsbergen and especially to the abandoned village of Piramida. From this experience, the album Piramida (2012) was born.

This record ended a musical era for the Efterklang who performed in their last concert at Sønderborg and then decided to take a break from the band.

Subsequently, they wrote together with the opera LEAVES: The Colour of Falling for the Copenhagen Opera Festival in 2015 and reconnected with the drummer Tatu Rönkkö. They then decided to get together again in another group called Liima, thanks to which they produced ii (2016) e 1982 (2017) and collaborated with baroque band B.O.X., with which they performed at MiXmass Festival. After these experiences, Efterklnag got back together and released their latest album, Altid Sammen, in 2019. The band leader Clausen said about the songs: «They talk about faith and union. Not in a religious way, none of us believe in a specific religion. The words search for meaning in intimate relationships, in nature, in death, and in eternity. The bonds we create, to be close to one another, to hold hands, to sing, or to share a moment together. We are all connected, thanks to the countries, the age, and the sex. We are all united thanks to the experiences we share, and we separate in every direction, but always together».
