Bio

Wallis Bird is an Irish singer and folk-rock musician born in 1982. Her songs are a mix of folk traditional sounds, blues, and funk influences, energetic rock elements all complemented by an extraordinary voice.

Wallis, born left-handed, started playing at a very young age, when she was only six months old she was given a guitar by her father. Unfortunately, due to an accident, she lost four fingers of her left hand and was forced to learn how to play an upside-down right-handed guitar, a feature that reflected in her musical style.

After studying Composition in Dublin, Wallis decided to move to Germany, where she began playing in some pubs and then in major festivals. Subsequently, Wallis started touring Europe with her band, composed by Chris and Michael Vinne, and Aóife O’Sullivan, until 2006, when she released her debut EP: Branches Untangle.

Wallis immediately signed a contract with Island Records (UK Group), with which she released two albums: Moodsets, recorded on vinyl in 2007, and Spoons(2007). The song “Counting to sleep” was chosen by iTunes as Single of the Week, allowing Spoons to enter the Top 10 of the English Charts for the most downloaded album.

In October 2008, Wallis recorded a re-interpretation of Depeche Mode’s “Just Can’t Get Enough” for The Sun’s television campaign All for 30p. The audience’s feedback was so positive that the song was released digitally in Europe and led to the publication of New Boots in 2009.

In 2014, Wallis released her fourth album Architect, about which she said: «it was my great personal and musical project: a girl meets a girl, they fall in love and the happy ending follows».
Home, published in 2016, is precisely the realization of this happy ending, an intimate album, indicative of a more serene state of mind and celebrated by the cover’s photo: an affectionate embrace between Wallis and her muse/life partner. Following this album, the Irish singer started a tour, which visited Europe, Japan and Australia. In 2017, Wallis was nominated for the Choice Music Price and won the Deutsche Musikautorenpreis, while in September 2019 published her latest work: Woman.
