Psychedelic Trance Tarantella
Breaking the rules, letting into the popular Salentinian music structures the novelty of electronic music, stating in a contemporary way (and with a fixed glance towards the future) the stories of struggles, land, passions, and frenetic dances while also letting technology into tradition in a vibrant connection like it has never been done before. That is what Psychedelic Trance Tarantella has accomplished. Like the title suggests, Kalàscima’s new record is a project where passion and the never-ending wanderlust are perfectly summarized on the album cover.
The Salentinian tradition is “regenerated” through technology, making it into a “pop discourse” that doesn’t tamper with its essence but glorifies it. Frames directly recount the Arno farmers’ revolt, the women’s moods. It is a contemporary narration, even urban, that makes Kalàscima’s music a sort of urban neofolk genre where memories of a farmer civilization, by now overwhelmed by contemporary aesthetics, talk to the daily sounds that surround us. Psychedelic Trance Tarantella is the future Salentinian popular music.
