January 21st, 2022, will mark the release of Underwater, Ludovico Einaudi\u2019s long-awaited new piano solo album.<\/strong><\/p>\n

More than 20 years have elapsed since the release of \u201cI Giorni\u201d, Ludovico Einaudi\u2019s last piano solo album. In a sense, \u201cUnderwater\u201d, his new album slated for release on January 21st with Decca Records, is a sort of return to origins for the Piedmontese pianist-composer, who for the occasion has gone back to the core of his own music.<\/p>\n

Four singles will precede the album, which consists of a dozen new pieces recorded in a studio in Dogliani, in Einaudi\u2019s native Langhe area.<\/p>\n

The first piece to be unveiled, \u201cLuminous\u201d, is already available online as a live performance video directed by Ana Shametaj.<\/p>\n

\u00abGoosebumps\u00bb; \u00abSound of Heaven\u00bb; \u00aba sound that provides warmth in these difficult times\u00bb. These are but a few of the first reactions to \u201cLuminous\u201d recorded online. Which are, it is worth remarking upon, completely accurate. While describing his latest work, Einaudi explained he was seeking \u00aba specific sound matching the expression of this music, soft, warm and deep\u00bb and that he wanted \u00aba piano capable of speaking and singing\u00bb.<\/p>\n

But how was \u201cUnderwater\u201d born? \u00abWhen the outside world was silent and still, I delved into a free, borderless space\u00bb, Ludovico says. \u00ab\u201dUnderwater\u201d is a fluid parallel dimension, flowing free of any outside disturbance. Short pieces, almost song-like, written on a whim at the piano. Sometimes we add so many levels of thoughts to our compositions that we risk diluting our pure inspiration in the process. Writing a song, on the other hand, is like breathing, like a wave that comes and goes\u00bb.<\/p>\n
