The <strong>Triennale<\/strong> has always served as the headquarters for the event, which since 2016 has been produced by the<strong> JAZZMI<\/strong> association, <strong>Ponderosa Music &amp; Art<\/strong>, and <strong>Triennale Milano Teatro<\/strong>, in collaboration with <strong>Blue<\/strong> <strong>Note Milano<\/strong> and under the artistic direction of <strong>Luciano Linzi<\/strong> and <strong>Titti Santini<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"3\">It is a rich program (to be explored on jazzmi.it) dedicated to discovering music that evolves, blends, reinvents itself, and continually finds new spaces for expression\u2014music that looks to the future while keeping its roots intact.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"4\"><b data-path-to-node=\"4\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">The Centenary of Miles &amp; Trane<\/b><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"5\">This year marks the <strong>100th anniversary<\/strong> of the births of two giants: <strong>Miles Davis<\/strong> and <strong>John Coltrane<\/strong>. These two masters sit at the heart of a packed schedule filled with concerts, special productions, books, exhibitions, talks, and in-depth discussions.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"6\">On <strong>November 5<\/strong> at <strong>Triennale<\/strong>, <strong>\u201cA New Sketches of Spain\u201d<\/strong>\u2014an extraordinary collaboration between <strong>Israel Galv\u00e1n<\/strong>, the world\u2019s leading flamenco dancer, and <strong>Michael Leonhart<\/strong>, one of the most visionary trumpet players on the <strong>New York<\/strong> scene\u2014will bring back to life the imagery that <strong>Davis<\/strong> and <strong>Gil Evans<\/strong> sculpted in their iconic <strong>1960<\/strong> album. On <strong>October 29<\/strong> at <strong>Teatro Lirico Giorgio<\/strong> <strong>Gaber<\/strong>, the <strong>Paolo Fresu Quintet<\/strong> will instead reinterpret <i data-path-to-node=\"6\" data-index-in-node=\"424\">Ascenseur pour l&#8217;\u00e9chafaud<\/i> (<i data-path-to-node=\"6\" data-index-in-node=\"451\">Elevator to the Gallows<\/i>), the famous soundtrack <strong>Miles<\/strong> composed for <strong>Louis Malle\u2019s<\/strong> film noir.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"7\">A double tribute will honor the centenary of <strong>John Coltrane<\/strong> on <strong>November 1<\/strong>: at <strong>Triennale<\/strong>, <strong>Dimitri Grechi Espinoza<\/strong>, <strong>Aziz \u015eenol Filiz<\/strong>, and <strong>Guido Zorn<\/strong> will present &#8220;<em>Meditation on a Love Supreme<\/em>&#8221; live, a project taking inspiration from <strong>Coltrane&#8217;s<\/strong> masterpiece to reflect on the ongoing relevance of its spiritual force. Meanwhile, at the <strong>ADI Design Museum<\/strong>, guitarist <strong>Sandro Fazio&#8217;s<\/strong> quartet featuring saxophonist <strong>Francesco Bearzatti<\/strong> will present a tribute titled <strong>&#8220;Dear Trane.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"8\"><b data-path-to-node=\"8\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">An Incredible Lineup&#8230;<\/b><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"9\">Triennale will host iconic figures of Italian jazz such as <strong>Enrico Intra<\/strong> and<strong>Gaetano Liguori (both\u00a0 performing on October 31)<\/strong>, as well as major American talent, old and new: from <strong>Bill Frisell (November 7)<\/strong> to <strong>Nate Smith (November 1)<\/strong>, and <strong>China Moses (November 4)<\/strong>, to two spectacular saxophonists balancing tradition and modernity, <strong>David Binney<\/strong> and <strong>Isaiah Collier<\/strong> (<strong>on November 3 and November 8<\/strong>, respectively).<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"10\">Another key hub of the festival will be <strong>Blue Note<\/strong>. The venue will host well-known names such as <strong>Dee Dee Bridgewater<\/strong> <strong>(November 4)<\/strong>, <strong>Peter Cincotti<\/strong> <strong>(November 1)<\/strong>, <strong>Take 6 (November 7)<\/strong>, and <strong>Amii Stewart (October 23)<\/strong>, alongside established jazz artists like <strong>Fabrizio Bosso (October 22)<\/strong> and <strong>Richard Bona (October 28)<\/strong>. As per tradition, all guest artists at the <strong>Via Borsieri<\/strong> venue will perform two sets per night.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"11\">More experimental offerings will find a home at <strong>Circolo Biko<\/strong>: hailing directly from Mali, <strong>Songhoy Blues<\/strong> will take the stage on <strong>October 23<\/strong>, while <strong>Idris Ackamoor &amp; The Pyramids (expected October 29)<\/strong> will showcase over<strong> 50 years<\/strong> of spiritual jazz and Afrofuturism, blending ritual, afrobeat, theater, and political activism. Additionally, the venue will host <strong>Momoko Gill<\/strong>, one of the most compelling voices in the new British jazz and electronic scene <strong>(November 7)<\/strong>, and <strong>S!RENE<\/strong>, an Anglo-Nigerian DJ and producer, who will headline a Halloween night DJ set straddling afrobeat, jazz, African funk, and club culture.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"12\">Heavy cross-genre influences will also mark the lineup at <strong>Santeria Toscana 31<\/strong>: from the world-jazz of <strong>L&#8217;Antidote (October 22)<\/strong> <strong>to The Messthetics<\/strong>, where saxophonist <strong>James Brandon Lewis<\/strong> dialogues with the rhythm section of post-punk icons Fugazi <strong>(November 7)<\/strong>. Finally, on <strong>October 24<\/strong>,<strong> Corto.Alto<\/strong>\u2014a project by <strong>Liam Shortall<\/strong>\u2014will showcase jazz improvisation paired with electronic production, broken beat, dub, and hip-hop.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"13\">Alcatraz will host two major acts: Malian singer-songwriter <strong>Rokia Traor\u00e9<\/strong> and jazz-soul legend Gregory Porter, performing on <strong>October 27<\/strong> and <strong>November 3<\/strong>, respectively. At <strong>Teatro Dal Verme<\/strong> <strong>(October 30)<\/strong>, <strong>Tommy Emmanuel<\/strong>, one of the world&#8217;s most prominent acoustic guitarists, will take the stage. At <strong>Teatro Arcimboldi (November 4)<\/strong>, trumpet virtuoso and staple of the French popular scene <strong>Ibrahim<\/strong> <strong>Maalouf<\/strong> will perform following his album <i data-path-to-node=\"13\" data-index-in-node=\"431\">Trumpets of Michel-Ange<\/i>. At the <strong>Conservatorio Giuseppe<\/strong> <strong>Verdi (November 8)<\/strong>, <strong>Sergio Cammariere<\/strong> makes a grand return to look back over his <strong>20-year career<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"14\"><strong>JAZZMI<\/strong> has always looked beyond the strict boundaries of jazz. This is underscored by the ambient, electronic, and folk project from <strong>Sigur R\u00f3s<\/strong> keyboardist <strong>Kjartan Sveinsson<\/strong> (hosted at <strong>Auditorium San Fedele on October 28<\/strong>) and a concert by Australian violist <strong>Warren Ellis<\/strong>\u2014a long-time collaborator of<strong> Nick Cave<\/strong>\u2014at <strong>Armani \/ Silos on October 26<\/strong>.
