I Pet Shop Boys <\/strong>formed in London in 1981 when singer Neil Tennant <\/strong>met keyboardist Chris Low. <\/strong>The duo completelyrevolutionized the musical standard thanks to productions of great impact and depth, giving life to what would be the main reference for Synth-pop. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The duo\u2019s career took off in 1985 when Stephen Hague produced their first single \u201cWest End Girls<\/strong>\u201d, which became an international success and propelled the Pet Shop Boys<\/strong> to release their first album Please <\/em>in 1986. The album certified the duo\u2019s international success and a year later was followed by Actually <\/em>from which were extracted \u201cIt\u2019s a Sin\u201d and a duet between Tennant <\/strong>and the great Dusty Springfield, \u201cWhat Have I Done to Deserve This?\u201d. Both singles reached the first spots in international Top Ten.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By now among the most important artists in the music panorama, Pet Shop Boys <\/strong>kept producing and releasing music for the following two decades. Among the most important projects, we can recall: Back to Mine <\/em>(2005), an album created to accompany the 1925\u2019s silent film Battleship Potemkin<\/em>; Fundamental <\/em>(2006) with which they took on more mature and political themes; Yes <\/em>(2009), the tenth musical projects by the duo for which they decided to shift away from the dark themes of the previous album and move towards a more optimistic sound and refined lyrics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

in 2009, Pet Shop Boys were honored at the Brit Awards with an award for the outstanding contribution to British music<\/strong>. They performed during the award show together with Lady Gaga <\/strong>and The Killers\u2019 Brandon Flowers<\/strong> in a meddley of their most beloved songs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After having published The Most Incredible Thing <\/em>in 2011, the British duo released the single \u201cWInner<\/strong>\u201d the following year which they performed live at the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in 2012. The single is part of the album Elysium <\/em>published in 2012.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

in 2014 they performed with the BBC Concert Orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall in London for a memorial concert in honor of mathematician Alan Turing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2016 they announced their thirteenth album Super <\/em>which debuted at the third spot on the UK Album Chart and in support of which they organized the Super Tour <\/em>which saw them perform live around the globe for the following three years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2019 was a very busy year for the Pet Shop Boys. <\/strong>They published a new EP Agenda<\/em> which, as Tennant <\/strong>explained, \u00abincludes three satirical songs and one a little sad. I believe it is due to the times we are experiencing\u00bb. They performed on the stage of the Glastonbury Festival <\/em>alongside The Killers with \u201cAlways on My Mind\u201d and \u201cHuman\u201d. Finally, they released \u201cDreamland\u201d, a collaboration with the band Years & Years which preceded their fourteenth album Hotspot <\/em>(2020).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
