Peter Hook<\/strong> (stage name for Peter Woodhead<\/strong>, born in 1956), is an English bassist and singer known for being a member of Joy Division<\/strong> and New Order<\/strong>. The ominous sonorities of Hook<\/strong>\u2019s bass permitted Joy Division<\/strong> to create songs characterized by deep despair and depression and were able to give rhythm extreme importance in the punk genre and to inspire an entire generation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hook<\/strong> founded Joy Division<\/strong> in 1977 together with Bernard Sumner<\/strong> and remained their bassist until the breakup of the group in 1980, which happened after Ian Curtis<\/strong>\u2019s suicide. With the remaining members, he then founded, in 1981, New Order <\/strong>in which he stayed until 2007.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In New Order<\/strong>\u2019s first album Movement<\/em> (1981), Hook<\/strong> was the lead singer and his bass became more melodic, perfectly blended with the band\u2019s synth-pop sound.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alongside his experience with New Order<\/strong>, Hook <\/strong>participated in two other projects: Revenge<\/strong> (198-1991) and Monaco<\/strong> (1997-2001). With the latter, he obtained quite a commercial success thanks to the song \u201cWhat Do You Want From Me?\u201d of 1997.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the breakup of New Order<\/strong>, in 2007, Hook<\/strong> started several other projects and collaborations which led him to the publication of Summer \u201988<\/em> e Tokyo Joe<\/em>, in which Hook’s punk bass sonorities emerged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That same year he founded Peter Hook and The Light<\/strong> in which he was the singer and the bassist. The band performed rearrangements of songs by Joy Division<\/strong> and New Order<\/strong> and started with a concert in May 2012 in Manchester which was dedicated to Ian Curtis.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In January 2013, Peter Hook<\/strong> published his book Unknown Pleasures-Inside Joy Division<\/em> in which he wrote about his childhood and his career with Joy Division<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Four years later, in July 2017, Hook<\/strong> performed in Italy during his touring show An Evening with Peter Hook and The Light<\/em>, in which the group rearranged the two compilations Substance<\/em> (1987 and 1988) which contained the best of New Order<\/strong> and Joy Division<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
