Cinematic funk Italian legends Calibro 35 are always in search of new territories to venture into. Their new journey is called \u2018Jazzploitation\u2019: a new EP paying tribute to jazz-funk and groovy cinematic-jazz and the great repertoire of cult artists such as Idris Muhammad, Piero Umiliani, Bob James or Grover Washington Jr. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The first single taken from the EP is a cover of RAI TV\u2019s legendary \u2018Luned\u00ec Cinema (Monday Movie)\u2019 theme, a jazzy disco-funk mover composed by Lucio Dalla, which features for the occasion the scat singing of Sicilian artist Marco Castello (Nu Genea, Erlend Oye). The second single is \u2018Chaser\u2019, a groovy jazz-funk stormer composed by Piero Umiliani, who originally recorded it for the soundtrack of 1975\u2019s erotic-noir movie \u2018The Body\u2019, directed by Luigi Scattini. On the EP\u2019s tracklist feature also \u2018Nautilus\u2019 by the jazz keyboardist Bob James and \u2018Generique\u2019 by Miles Davis. Four jazz-funk numbers that confirm the musicianship of Calibro 35, already proven in over a decade of history. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Described by Rolling Stone as \u201cthe most fascinating, retro-maniac and genuine thing that has happened to Italy in the past few years\u201d, Milan-based Calibro 35 enjoy a worldwide reputation as one of the coolest independent bands around. Active since 2007, during their long career they were sampled by Dr. Dre on \u2018Compton\u2019 (\u2018One Shot One Kill\u2019 feat. Snoop Dogg), Jay Z (\u2018Picasso Baby\u2019), The Child of Lov & Damon Albarn (\u2018One Day\u2019) and Demigodz (\u2018The Summer Of Sam\u2019). They played major venues and festivals all over Europe and as unique musicians they collaborated with, amongst others: PJ Harvey, Mike Patton, John Parish, Stewart Copeland and Rokia Traor\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
